We are a small animal practice in Reading, first established as part of the Nine Mile Veterinary Group set up in 1985. We are passionate about animal care and our skilled team of veterinarians and vet nurses are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for your animals. Because we love animals and strive to provide excellent continuity of care, we are open six days a week and have access to 24-hour emergency care. For your added convenience, there’s free parking for clients at our surgeries.
Fiona graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2000 and started working at Burghfield in 2001. Her passion is providing a friendly local veterinary service, backed-up with the equipment and expertise to ensure patients get the best veterinary care from day one. Fiona has a strong interest in veterinary ophthalmology. At the last count, Fiona has three children, three cats, one husband, one dog and some chickens. When not at work, she is usually walking the dog or the children. Fiona would like to spend more time riding a horse, or her new mountain bike.
Michal Chrustek MRCVS
Michal joined us after spending the last few years working out of hours and has gladly welcomed a return to day-shifts! He is passionate about feline and emergency medicine and looking forward to a new challenge. Michal owns a giant cat called Preston and enjoys restoring old Danish furniture in his spare time.
Caroline graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1998. Initially starting in mixed practice, she has worked solely with small animals since 2001. Caroline really enjoys being a vet with the variety it brings. She joined Burghfield in February 2008 and loves working amongst the great team we have. Her particular interest is medicine cases and she passed her general practitioner certificate in this subject in 2006. Outside of work, Caroline enjoys walking her dog Sherlock, who she and her husband rescued whilst on holiday in Corsica. When they found him he was very sad and alone, so after much agonising they decided to bring him home. Sherlock is a fantastic dog and has passed his kennel club with good citizen bronze award!
Emma Holt BVetMed MRCVS
Emma joined the team at Burghfield in 2018. She graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2010 and has been working in small animal practice ever since. Emma has a special interest in emergency medicine and critical care and is currently working towards a certificate in this area. In her spare time she loves to travel, experiencing new places especially the food.
Fay Marley-Cook BVSC (Hons) MRCVS
Fay graduated from the University of Bristol in 2011 and joined Burghfield Vets in January 2017. She lives with Bob the dog who has the world's best smile and a Lionhead rabbit called 'Bunny' who rules the roost. At work Fay is very interested in medicine and ultrasound and is studying for a certificate in this area. At home she enjoys long walks with Bob and baking.
Victoria Poulton BSc BVSc MRCVS
Tori graduated from Liverpool University in June 2015 and has been enjoying the challenges of her first job with Burghfield and Goring Veterinary Surgeries ever since. She has a very little cat at home, the smallest of the cat breeds in fact, a Singapura called Leo. Tori loves travelling and has backpacked all around South East Asia and Africa. She also loves learning new surgical techniques and hopes to gain further qualifications in this field in the future.
Helen Windass MA VetMB CertAVP (SAM) MRCVS
Helen has always loved animals and has wanted to be a vet for as long as she can remember. She grew up in the Reading area and decided to return here after graduating from Cambridge Vet School in 2009. Helen has worked at Burghfield Vets since graduation and thoroughly enjoys her job amongst a great team. She has a particular interest is complicated medical cases, and has completed her advanced veterinary practice certificate in medicine. Outside work she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and Labrador and also participates in a number of sports including running and swimming.
